Calstock Wetlands

Calstock Wetlands wildlife reserve

Adjacent to Okel Tor Mine lies the Calstock Wetlands wildlife reserve, a 12 hectare intertidal wetland habitat of saltmarsh and reedbeds. The reserve was created as a joint venture between the Environment Agency and the Tamar Community Trust. It's home to a diverse, thriving and continually expanding community of wildlife, including a great many bird species, so it's no surprise the reserve is hugely popular with bird watchers and nature lovers.

A footpath between Okel Tor Mine and Calstock passes between the wetlands and the river Tamar and makes for a lovely walk into the village.
